Giving back to our community

At PEER Group, we want to make community involvement meaningful to our employees. It’s our goal to support causes that touch their hearts and lives. One cause that is key to our corporate heart is supporting and encouraging young people to consider a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math - STEM. We try to sponsor STEM-related projects and activities whenever possible.

At the beginning of each year, we perform an internal survey allowing our generous employees to share ideas about different groups to support. Some are STEM-related, some aren’t. Most are local charities. All are worthy causes.

Send‘em Off Smiling 2018

Each year, our team raises funds for Send’em Off Smiling (SOS), a local charity with a mission to “set children in need on a more hopeful path by outfitting them with clothing and school supplies, intended to send’em off smiling on that first day of school each September”. Over the past 24 years, SOS has helped 19,000 children in Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge. In 2017, they helped 1,138 children in the region. This year, we wanted to help them support even more kids so we set a goal to become a Platinum Sponsor. We pulled it off through our dedicated fundraising efforts and donated $10,020.

Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club Turkey Drive

As professional employees in a vibrant tech community, it can be easy to forget just how fortunate we are. Volunteer organizations like the Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club and The House of Friendship remind us about the joy of sharing. Every year in December, we make a donation to the KC Rotary Turkey Drive which gives the gift of food to many local families in need. This fall, our creative (and competitive) group of employees banded together to put the fun in fundraising: several pop-up auctions, department-run bake sales, and companywide fundraising lunches helped us make an $8,210 donation to the turkey drive.

Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club Turkey Drive

Making a donation to the KCRC’s annual turkey drive is one way for PEER Group to give back to the community in which we live and work. We take pride in innovation so we challenged ourselves to come up with new ideas to meet a higher fundraising goal this year.

Our 110 employees raised donations through a garage sale, potato lunch, and a bake sale, knowing that PEER Group would match our contribution. We raised $6032 and encourage other local tech companies to kick start their own fundraising and provide a Christmas dinner to every KW family that would not otherwise enjoy one.

High school students get a glimpse into automation

We also had a high school co-op student with us for the Fall semester. Working in the Marketing department, our young media assistant became our resident photographer and also added her creative flair to some promotional materials.
