PEER Group: “Best Workplace” for 5th consecutive year

Kitchener, Ontario - April 27, 2017

The PEER Group Inc. is delighted to announce that the Great Place to Work® Institute has named us one of the Best Workplaces in Canada for the fifth consecutive year. GPTW 2017

PEER Group sits at #24 on the 2017 list of medium-sized companies. Details appear in a special national report in today’s Globe and Mail.

“I often say that working at PEER Group is like living in a town, not in a city,” says Janice Retterath, director of HR & Admin.

“We strive to create a working environment where knowledge, skills, and talents come together on collaborative teams. Our employees work together, support each other, and have formed a community of respect. We share our triumphs and important life moments – the funny stories and the tragic ones. There’s always someone to listen, laugh, or help as the situation demands,” she continues.

“I’m very proud of our team for achieving this recognition annually for the past five years. Receiving this award in 2017 is especially exciting for us because PEER Group celebrated our twenty-fifth anniversary this year,” says Mike Kropp, president and CEO.

In 2016, the company only had four employee departures; 4% is well below the average for technology companies in the KW area.

About the Great Place to Work competition

This list of “Best Workplaces in Canada” is compiled by Great Place to Work® Institute Canada. The competition process is based on two criteria: two-thirds of the total score comes from a 58-statement survey completed by a random selection of employees, along with their open-ended comments about their organization; the remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization’s culture, including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures. This offers a rigorous representation of the organization from an employee perspective, and an overall portrait of the workplace culture. Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work®: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.

About Great Place to Work

Great Place to Work® is the global authority on high-trust, high-performance workplace cultures. We are a research and consulting firm whose mission is to build a better society by helping companies transform their workplaces. Through proprietary assessment tools, advisory services, and employer branding programs, including workplace certification and Best Workplaces lists, Great Place to Work® provides the benchmarks, framework, and expertise needed to create, sustain, and recognize outstanding workplace cultures. In Canada, Great Place to Work® produces the annual 100 Best Workplaces list, released in a national feature in the Globe and Mail. This is part of the world’s largest annual workplace study, which culminates in a series of national lists in over 50 countries, including the study’s flagship list of 100 Best companies published annually in Fortune magazine. Globally, this survey represents the voices of 11 million employees, including approximately 300,000 from Canada alone. It’s what makes this study so credible: the primary determinant used in selecting winners is an employee survey. There’s only one way to get on this list – and that’s if your employees put you there.

Join us: we're presenting on smart manufacturing at SEMICON Japan

Kitchener, Ontario – December 1, 2016

You are invited to attend our presentation

Hear how you can leverage the SEMI standards to enable smart manufacturing in an existing facility

  • Location: TechSPOT WEST (East Hall 1)
  • Date: Wednesday, December 14, 2016
  • Time: 15:00-15:50
  • Speaker: Doug Suerich, Product Evangelist

The emerging IoT market is driving the growth of 200mm fabs which have traditionally not embraced the level of automation found in 300mm manufacturing facilities. However, as the demand for low-cost devices increases, better manufacturing control is becoming a must for all fabs. Emerging smart manufacturing technologies hold the promise of providing the flexibility required to respond rapidly and cost-effectively in both high-volume/low-mix and high-volume/high-mix production environments. But, adding such technologies can be challenging to implement in facilities with existing equipment and manufacturing operation systems that do not support easy customizations.

Our product evangelist, Doug Suerich, will propose an architecture that leverages the SEMI standards to retrofit a fab with the latest big data and analysis capabilities, without impacting existing equipment and operations.

We look forward to seeing you at SEMICON Japan!

  • Visit us in Booth 3205, Hall 3. We’ll be there with our Japanese distributor, Mizuho Information & Research.
  • To set up a meeting or product demonstration, please contact sales@peergroup.com.

PEER Group joins Microsoft Enterprise Cloud Alliance

Kitchener, Ontario – October 5, 2016

The PEER Group Inc. announced today it has joined the Microsoft Enterprise Cloud Alliance which supports partners innovating with Microsoft solutions.

PEER Group provides factory automation software which enables next-generation manufacturing called “smart manufacturing”. In the smart manufacturing world, cloud computing has created both opportunities and challenges. Smart manufacturing is possible through secure connections between intelligent machines, devices, humans and data. Leveraging cloud-based technologies is one way to enable secure access to vast amounts of data (“big data”). When manufacturers and equipment makers can access their big data, they can perform analytics on it and in turn, improve their manufacturing processes.

PEER Group’s Remicus™ product is a high-availability cloud-based solution for remote equipment monitoring and control. It leverages Microsoft’s SQL Server database for access rights management and connectivity auditing. Remicus enables secure feedback of manufacturing intelligence into a smart factory and provides the means to securely access and deliver machine data to users who can extract its value.

Smart manufacturing initiatives are changing the way semiconductor device makers leverage data to gain insights into manufacturing processes, positively impacting productivity, efficiency, quality control, and operations. Remicus allows manufacturers and equipment makers to turn their collected data into action.

Joining the Enterprise Cloud Alliance was the next logical step for PEER Group in a long-standing relationship with Microsoft Corp. Using Microsoft technologies in many software solutions has allowed PEER Group to demonstrate best-in-class customer commitment and market leadership in a dynamic business environment.

“Since becoming a Microsoft partner in 1996, we have advanced to meet the highest requirements demanded by the Microsoft Partner Network. In 2006, we became a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner. We first achieved the Microsoft Gold Application Development Competency in 2012,” says Terry Young, software architect at PEER Group and initiative manager for the company’s participation in the Microsoft Enterprise Cloud Alliance.

“This alliance with Microsoft strengthens PEER Group’s position as a technology leader and leading supplier of factory automation software for smart manufacturing,” Young continues.

“The Enterprise Cloud Alliance brings best-in-class solutions together in strategic engagements, drives innovation, and enables success for our elite group of partners,” says Chris Lwanga, principle manager at Microsoft.

Using big data to improve smart manufacturing

Kitchener, Ontario - July 6, 2016

Turn your collected data into action

In the past, many fabs simply reacted to the limited set of data they were able to collect and equipment makers struggled with limited tool processing information from the fabs. But now, large volumes of equipment data can be made available. Fabs are collecting big data from all of their equipment, factory systems, and processes.

Big data provides new opportunities to both fabs and OEMs

  • Fabs can benefit from more efficient, predictive manufacturing and leverage newly available equipment data to remove inefficiencies, reduce costs, and improve uptime and yields. They can identify potential issues before they become problems.
  • With more equipment data available to them, OEMs can use it to ensure optimal equipment performance during production and provide a higher standard of service to their fab customers.

Successful big data solutions enable intelligent monitoring and allow complex manufacturers and their equipment suppliers to turn information into action, and they can do this quickly, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Both fabs and OEMs want the ability to make manufacturing decisions and process modifications in real time. Everyone wants to save time and money.

PEER Group: Great Place to Work, 4th consecutive year

Kitchener, Ontario – April 22, 2016

Best Workplaces in Canada 2016 logoThe PEER Group Inc. is delighted to announce that we are being recognized as one of the Best Workplaces in Canada for the fourth consecutive year. We appear at #22 on the 2016 list.

This list, which is compiled by Great Place to Work® Institute Canada, appears in a special national report in today’s Globe and Mail.

“I have the honour of working with a group of amazing people who feel like family. Together, we have built a company culture known for our camaraderie where our team values collaboration above individual accomplishments,” says Janice Retterath, director of HR and Administration at PEER Group.

“I’m proud to say we are 100-strong in Canada and our employees drive our business,” says Mike Kropp, PEER Group president and CEO. “I’d like to thank our entire team for their dedication to solving challenging manufacturing problems and for their ongoing commitment to customer success, allowing us to enjoy repeat business around the globe.”

The Great Place to Work competition process is based on two criteria: two-thirds of the total score comes from a 58-statement survey completed by a random selection of employees, along with their open-ended comments about their organization; the remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization’s culture, including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures. This offers a rigorous representation of the organization from an employee perspective and an overall portrait of the workplace culture. Together, they provide crucial data relative to the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.

About Great Place to Work

Great Place to Work is the global authority on high-trust, high-performance workplace cultures. We are a research and consulting firm whose mission is to build a better society by helping companies transform their workplaces. In Canada, Great Place to Work produces the annual 100 Best Workplaces list, released in a national feature in the Globe and Mail. This is part of the world’s largest annual workplace study, which culminates in a series of national lists in almost 50 countries, including the study’s flagship list of 100 Best companies published annually in Fortune magazine. Globally, this survey represents the voices of 11 million employees, including approximately 300,000 from Canada alone. It’s what makes this study so credible: the primary determinant used in selecting winners is an employee survey. There’s only one way to get on this list – and that’s if your employees put you there.
